Antonio Ruddier, Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero have all joined the reigning Premier League champions this summer.

But Antonio Conte has been vocal about his displeasure with the size of his Chelsea squad and his desperate to add more bodies.

Chelsea missed out on Romelu Lukaku to rivals Manchester United while Jose Mourinho’s side also nabbed Nemanja Matic from Stamford Bridge.

But the Mirror claim Roman Abramovich is ready to back Conte in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

The Blues have been linked with a move for Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain recently but it is said Chelsea are now ready to offer £35m for the England international.

The 23-year-old’s future at Arsenal is uncertain as he seeks assurances over his role with the Gunners with a number of Premier League clubs reportedly interested in his signature.

Oxlade-Chamberlain also has just 12 months on his contract and it is suggested he doesn’t want to sign a new deal at the Emirates.

Lagos State Government has banned the use of motorbikes popularly known as ‘Okada’ and ‘Air Cool Vans’ for transportation of meat and meat products in all abattoirs and slaughter slabs across the State in order to ensure a well-structured meat transporting system which befits the status of a mega city.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Oluwatoyin Suarau who made this known recently at the stakeholders meeting with representatives of the Lagos State Butchers Association, Eko Refrigerated Meat Van Association, Apapa Park transporter and the Sheep and Goat Butchers Association noted that only the authorized ‘Refrigerated Meat Vans’ are allowed in the business of transporting meat within the State.

“Anyone who transports meat products using means other than the authorized refrigerated meat vans will have their meat seized. The ‘air cool van’ which was earlier introduced in 2008 has been phased out and must not operate within the State again”, he said.

While reiterating that the State government will not relent in its efforts to stop the unwholesome transportation of meat, Suarau warned against carrying of meat products in polythene bags and unauthorized vehicles.
He added that the State government has zero tolerance for ‘Okada’ operations within the premises of abattoirs and slaughter slabs and thus directed that all owners of ‘Okada’ should vacate the premises of the abattoirs and slaughter slabs immediately.

Suarau stated further that the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance Unit on dislodgement of illegal abattoirs, seizure of stray animals, monitoring of illegal meat transportation and regulation of veterinary premises will commence enforcement of the ban on operations of motorcycles and air cool vans within the premises of the abattoirs and slaughter slabs in the State.

While maintaining that the government will soon provide more refrigerated meat vans to replace old and rickety ones for effective transportation of meat in the State, Suarau informed that a standard of what a mega city abattoir should look like has been set and urged the abattoir operators to give the government necessary support to achieve the successful implementation of policies through a high level of policy compliance.

“The State has a model which is aimed at ensuring healthy and hygienic transportation of meat within the State. I, therefore, urge all to give maximum support to the government in the implementation of these policies”, he said.

The Commissioner explained that the since the inception of the present administration, policies and programmes aimed at changing the face of abattoirs and slaughter slabs have been embarked, adding that apart from upgrade of facilities and infrastructure of abattoirs and slaughter slabs, the State government has also trained butchers and live cattle dealers drawn from various abattoirs and slaughter slabs in the State on current trends in abattoir management.

In his words, “The State government through the Ministry of Agriculture has also continued with the removal of waste, removal of shanties and dislodgement of illegal occupants at various abattoirs and slaughter slabs as part of efforts aimed at ensuring and maintaining a hygienic and conducive environment and wholesomeness in the red meat value chain business in Lagos”.

He averred that the commitment of the present administration towards the attainment of food security depends largely on the cooperation of every resident of the State, stressing that food security and hygienic environment occupies the front burner of the present administration as a way to facilitate job and wealth creation as well.

Oba Enitan Ogunwusi’s Marriage

Shocking news hitting us at this hour is that of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II and Olori Wuraola-Zynab Ogunwusi’s marriage allegedly hitting the rocks.
A report states that Olori Wuraola was accused of many unpublishable things and lack of commitment to her marital vows.

Why Olori Wuraola Ran To Obasanjo For Quick Intervention.
Other miseries only speak but heartbreak shrieks out. Yet each couple extinguishes the flames of their love, as it pleases them. Some do it with a bitter look, some with a flattering word. Some do it with a kiss and others by infidelity. Ask Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi and Olori Wuraola; the estranged couple would definitely have their pick from the pack.
Yes, until their separation, not a few people believed that all was well with the powerful and well-respected monarch and his wife. Their wedding ceremony last year was undeniably one of the most glamorous at the period it was held; the planning and guest list distinguished it from hordes of other wedding ceremonies.
Thereafter, the couple criss-crossed the world for their honeymoon playfully running after each other and picking pebbles on the sandy esplanade of holiday resorts while retiring under the moonlight of Europe’s scenic cities among other idyllic vacation spots. It was a wedding that was supposed to be made in heaven. Alas, one year down the line, the marriage has crashed irretrievably. The well-celebrated marriage has run its full course. While it lasted, they had no child.
Inside sources described the marriage as a sham, plagued by suspicion, hatred and devoid of love; they accused Olori of many unpublishable things and lack of commitment to her marital vows. Even as you read she is not on talking terms with her in-laws. The allegations are as wide as they are wild.
Back then when Olori Wuraola held sway, she had the world at her feet; she got her wishes at the snap of a finger and she literally ruled the royal household. Wherever he went, she was constantly by his side. She basked in the stratospheric adulation that came with being the apple of the Ooni’s eyes. Pray, who wouldn’t?
Unfortunately, things have changed and many within the palace now snigger and sneer at her for losing her position as the queen to one of the most powerful kings in Africa.
Curiously, however, on arrival from a trip last week, Olori Wuraola scurried to the home of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to intervene and probably advise her husband not to be influenced to dump her like a bad habit and get another wife. Yet no dice! Obasanjo could not do anything.
Sadly, they have since gone their separate ways perhaps ruing what was and what could have been.

Neymar marked his Paris Saint-Germain debut with a goal and an assist as Unai Emery’s men defeated Guingamp 3-0.

Neymar celebrated his Paris Saint-Germain debut in style with a goal and an assist for Edinson Cavani in a 3-0 win over Guingamp.

Having taken a watching brief for PSG’s opening-day win over Amiens last weekend, Neymar made his Ligue 1 bow at the Stade de Roudourou on Sunday after his world-record €222million transfer from Barcelona was ratified by the French Football Federation in the week.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in the Supercopa de Espana first leg thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s wondergoal.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning winner before being sent off for a dive in Real Madrid’s Supercopa de Espana first-leg triumph over Barcelona.

The Portugal star came off the bench to blast home the third goal of the visitors’ 3-1 win at Camp Nou but earned a second yellow card for going to ground in the penalty area two minutes later, having earlier been booked for taking his shirt off in celebration.

Zinedine Zidane’s side took the lead early in the second half through an own goal from Gerard Pique but Barca levelled thanks to Lionel Messi’s penalty, which was won in controversial fashion by Luis Suarez.

Ronaldo put Madrid back ahead with a spectacular strike but was dismissed within two minutes of that goal and risked further punishment when he pushed the referee in the back before departing the field.

Barca pushed for a second equaliser late on but were undone by Marco Asensio’s brilliant strike on the break, meaning they have it all to do at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday in the first Supercopa tie between these sides since 2012.

Barca had the upper hand in the early exchanges, with Suarez testing Keylor Navas from just inside the area and Dani Carvajal was perhaps fortunate to escape being penalised for handball when blocking Gerard Deulofeu’s cross.

Neither side looked prepared to commit to the attack in a rather tepid first half and Gareth Bale saw the clearest chance saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen from inside the penalty area following Isco’s jinking run.

Pique – who scored the winner when these teams met in the International Champions Cup last month – had been booked for attempting to punch the ball towards goal following a corner in the first half and it was another moment of ignominy for the centre-back that gave Madrid the lead five minutes after the break.

Marcelo ran onto Isco’s pass down the left and sent a low cross into box, and Pique steered the ball into his own net on the slide as he attempted to clear it for a corner.

Barca suddenly looked unsteady at the back and it took a brilliant sliding block from Jordi Alba to prevent Carvajal from making it 2-0 after some brilliant work from Karim Benzema.

Valverde introduced Denis Suarez from the bench and the move almost paid off immediately, the midfielder’s corner headed goalwards by Luis Suarez only for Navas to make a fine one-handed save.

Ronaldo, on in place of Benzema, had a shot blocked behind by Pique and the assistant referee’s raised flag denied him when he did find the net following Casemiro’s throughball.

The 32-year-old took full advantage of his next chance, though, playing a one-two with Isco to set up a counter-attack before cutting inside Pique and firing into the top-right corner from 20 yards.

Ronaldo was booked for removing his shirt and then stunningly dismissed after being adjudged to have gone to ground too easily in the area under pressure from Samuel Umtiti.

But the incident could not prevent Madrid seizing control of the tie, Asensio rifling home an unstoppable third from the edge of the area to get watching president Florentino Perez onto his feet.

Two goals from £75million signing Romelu Lukaku helped Manchester United defeat West Ham 4-0 in the Premier League.
Romelu Lukaku starred on his competitive Old Trafford debut, scoring twice as Manchester United began the 2017-18 campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over West Ham to lead the early Premier League table.

Lukaku had netted in his first league appearances for both West Brom and Everton and he repeated that feat on Sunday, getting on the end of a Marcus Rashford pass to give the hosts a deserved lead in the 33rd minute.

Nemanja Matic also began to swiftly justify the fee paid by United to reunite the Serbian with his former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, impressing throughout at the base of midfield and completing a timely interception to trigger the counter-attack that ended in Lukaku’s first goal.

The Belgian centre-forward doubled his tally eight minutes into the second half, when he headed home a Henrikh Mkhitaryan free-kick.

Substitute Anthony Martial and midfielder Pogba added gloss to the scoreline by scoring late on, leaving Mourinho and the home faithful cheered by the sight of a dominant display to open the campaign as they seek to challenge for a first league title since 2012-13.

A sustained run of away fixtures to open the campaign for West Ham, a consequence of London Stadium temporarily reverting to its original purpose to host the IAAF World Championships, continues with a trip to Southampton next weekend, when United are also on the road at Swansea City.

Mourinho watched his team dominate possession but struggle to create clear-cut opportunities in the first half, with former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, making his first Premier League start for West Ham, required to deny Juan Mata in the 18th minute. The Spaniard still managed to cut the ball back to the six-yard box, where Angelo Ogbonna prevented Lukaku from getting a shot away.

The best chance yet arrived in the 27th minute when Pogba’s lofted pass forward released Mata into a dangerous position inside the area. The ex-Chelsea and Valencia man could have taken a shot at goal but opted instead to try and square for Lukaku, Ogbonna again completing a good clearance.

There was no denying the Belgium striker six minutes later, though. A Matic interception just inside the United half allowed Rashford to break at pace, the youngster’s carefully weighted pass slipping in Lukaku to race in on goal and slam a fierce, first-time finish past Hart and into the back of the net with the help of the post.

West Ham had to wait until first-half injury time to register a shot on target, Edimilson Fernandes shooting straight at David de Gea in a frustrating conclusion to a flowing move involving Andre Ayew and Mark Noble.

They did not threaten again before United made it 2-0, the powerful Lukaku holding off Arthur Masuaku with ease to nod Mkhitaryan’s set-piece delivery into the bottom corner of the net, beyond the reach of a helpless Hart, as the Armenia international supplied his first league assist since February.

Lukaku narrowly missed out on a hat-trick just past the hour mark, Pablo Zabaleta, another former City man making his first competitive start for West Ham, required to pull off a desperate block following good work from Rashford down the left and Mkhitaryan’s lay-off.

Rashford hit the post with a rasping strike in the 66th minute as United’s sustained pressure continued, Daley Blind firing a volley down into the ground and just over the bar with 21 minutes to go.

A third appeared inevitable and it arrived when Mkhitaryan slipped Martial in to score in the 87th minute as West Ham fell apart late on.

And Pogba then struck from long range in injury time, perhaps serving notice of his intention to impress after struggling at times to convince in his first season back at Old Trafford last term.

Juventus lost the Supercoppa Italiana for the third time in four seasons as Alessandro Murgia gave Lazio a stoppage-time triumph.

Alessandro Murgia came off the bench to snatch Supercoppa Italiana glory as Lazio secured a breathless 3-2 win over Juventus amid remarkable late drama at the Stadio Olimpico.

The hosts, playing in the showpiece by virtue of their 2-0 loss to Juve in May’s Coppa Italia final, appeared to be cruising to victory by the same margin thanks to a double from Ciro Immobile.

The one-time Juventus youngster built upon 23 Serie A goals in his maiden season at Lazio by winning and converting a first-half penalty and expertly dispatching a header nine minutes after the interval.

Juventus offered little sign of mustering a response until Paulo Dybala scored a magnificent free-kick in the 85th minute and the Argentina forward converted from 12 yards in stoppage time after Adam Marusic felled Alex Sandro.

But two other Lazio substitutes would give far more impressive accounts of themselves as Jordan Lukaku stormed down the left flank and allowed Murgia to add a final twist, condemning Juve to a third Supercoppa reverse in the past four seasons.

Juventus laid siege to the Lazio area during the early stages, Thomas Strakosha keeping out Juan Cuadrado’s close-range attempt with his legs when he should have had no chance to prevent a goal from Alex Sandro’s cutback.

It proved an eventful opening for the Albania goalkeeper, who got down sharply to deny Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain, and Lazio rewarded him by gaining a foothold in the contest.

Giorgio Chiellini – playing without his old ally Leonardo Bonucci in the Juventus defence – made a brilliant last-ditch tackle to thwart Immobile but the same player sprung the Serie A champions’ backline in the 31st minute and was brought down by Gianluigi Buffon.

The booked veteran goalkeeper guessed correctly but could not get close to Immobile’s well-struck effort.

Buffon was soon back in the action as Dusan Basta drilled an effort at him from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s clever flick before Lucas Leiva sought a rare goal with a fierce long-ranger that was tipped over the bar.

Cuadrado, who was on the receiving end of a robust tackle from Lucas before half-time, saw a shot blocked shortly after the restart but Lazio doubled their lead in the 54th minute.

The Juve backline had lost its shape by the time Marco Parolo floated a cross to the far post and Immobile headed back across Buffon and in.

Immobile might have claimed the matchball when Senad Lulic played him through with an hour played but Buffon sprawled effectively at the forward’s feet.

Miralem Pjanic’s radar was unusually awry from a promising free-kick situation and Higuain prodded wide from substitute Douglas Costa’s cross as the game entered its final quarter.

Buffon had to turn away a stinging Luis Alberto attempt before Dybala showed Pjanic how it was done from 25 yards.

The 23-year-old’s viciously swerving strike shattered Lazio’s previous calm and Marusic’s foul on Alex Sandro was clumsy in the extreme as Dybala converted easily to have seemingly forced extra time.

Sensing their moment slipping by, the hosts released Lukaku to storm down the left flank. Mattia De Sciglio’s desperate slide tackle could not contain the Belgian and Murgia steered unerringly past Buffon to spark wild celebrations.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Borno state has alleged that some loyalists of former Governor of the state, Ali Modu Sheriff and ‎led by one Barrister Kolo Adam, are behind rumours that Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau has been arrested by the army at a UN rented facility in Maiduguri.
The party in the state also said that the rumour peddlers are doing so with the ulterior motive of destabilising the state. The party called for the arrest of Mr. Adam for also allegedly trying to incite the youths against the humanitarian workers and breach public peace in the state. APC APC Borno state made this know in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Friday through its Publicity Secretary, Makinta Zarami. Mr. Zarami claimed that Kolo Adam was the first to post information on his Facebook wall saying he had information that Shekau had been captured at the UN house with one of his legs injured.
According to the statement, “The APC in Borno State is worried that since former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff lost his case at the Supreme Court over the Chairmanship of the PDP, his loyalists have redirected their mischief to spread different rumours with the most dangerous being that of today.
“We were shocked that Kolo Adam, a known associate and one of the spokespersons of Sheriff’s group, pasted on his Facebook wall today, claiming that Abubakar Shekau was arrested by the Nigerian Military at a facility rented by agencies of the United Nations in a house belonging to late Governor Mala Kachalla. “The same Kolo Adam claimed that abducted Lecturers of University of Maiduguri were rescued.
Immediately after Kolo Adam pasted that, some loyalists of the former Governor began to share the information through different social media platforms. The aim was to achieve series of objectives.
“First, it was to incite youths in Maiduguri against hundreds of humanitarian workers in order to destabilize Borno State just to create a political atmosphere of failure on the part of the APC led Government in Borno State to keep the State stable. Secondly, the rumour was to link Boko Haram with the Mala Kachalla who was a known political opponent of Sheriff so as to cleverly distance Sheriff from issues relating to Boko Haram.

“It was also aimed at tarnishing the image of the Federal and State Government which deal with humanitarian agencies helping highly traumatized victims of the Boko Haram insurgency. The APC hereby demand for the immediate arrest of Kolo Adam and all those who worked with him in sharing this dangerous rumour that is capable of putting the lives of over two million IDPs at the risk of loosing food and medical support from agencies of the United Nations and other humanitarian workers.
“The APC also calls on security agencies to continue to do their job and take on anyone or institution with factual link with the Boko Haram so long as there proofs beyond reasonable doubt.
The APC calls on the people of Borno State to dismiss this rumour while calling on all those carrying out humanitarian activities to remain calm and continue their works but with strict obedience to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the laws of Borno State under the APC” Zarami said.

Meanwhile, the army, Friday, has given reasons why it raided the UN  building. The Nigerian Army on Friday said it had conducted cordon and search operation at a building housing the United Nations (UN) staff in Maiduguri following alert on high profile Boko Haram members. Lt. Col. Samuel Kingsley, the spokesperson, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, said in a statement released in Maiduguri that the army had intensified condone and search operation in Maiduguri and its environs to clear remnants of Boko Haram insurgents.
“On 10th August 2017, the Theatre Command received information from credible sources that some high profiled Boko Haram insurgents infiltrated into Pompomari-ByePass area of Maiduguri. “It therefore became expedient to take pre-emptive action by combing the general area through a cordon and search operations.
“The operation was successfully conducted as over 30 houses were searched. One of such building included a property which was said to be occupied by United Nations Staff, although the property did not carry a UN designation. “On the whole, operation in the general area was successfully concluded but no arrest was made because the suspects were not found,” Kingsley said. Kingsley noted that troops under the Operation LAFIYA DOLE had been conducting several clearance as well as cordon and search operations in urban and rural areas within the Theatre.
He said that the clearance operations effort had yielded significant successes in the past weeks. According to him, the operation had forced Boko Haram insurgents to change tactics and resort to suicide bombing targeting military locations and the populace. Kingsley stressed that the operation was necessitated by the need to intensify Cordon and Search in Maiduguri metropolis and environment.
He listed other areas affected by the operation as Jiddari –Polo, Muna Garage, Jakana among others. “The command wishes to assure the general public that the operations are being conducted to safeguard lives and properties but not targeted at any individual or group. “Members of the public are cautioned against peddling rumours which may cause disaffection and to remain law abiding”.

Also affected are CEOs of A-Kelnal Integrated & Logistics Services, African Industries, African Tiles & Ceramics as well as ZTE Nigeria.

The Senate had invited 63 firms but only 33 honoured the invitation.

The Chairman of the Senate Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, gave the directive at the committee’s investigative meeting on Friday in Abuja.

He said the refusal of the CEOs to honour the invitation despite several reminders was a disrespect for the National Assembly as an institution.

Uzodinma said the 8th Senate would not tolerate such behaviour from anybody particularly in the present situation that involves Federal Government funds.

According to him, investigations carried out by the joint commiittee showed several forms of infractions that have cost the country huge amount of money.

He said the development in the country currently in recession was a disservice to the nation.

”It is no longer going to be business as usual.

”We have directed the Nigeria Police Force to arrest the heads of the firms and bring them before us.

”If we can suspend our recess as lawmakers to see to the end of this investigation, I see no reason why the firms that have been indicted would not come to defend themselves,” he said.

The chairman asked the firms that honoured the invitation to go through the documents given to them and report back next week to defend themselves.

The Senate had mandated the joint committee to carry out an extensive investigation into alleged N30 trillion revenue leakage in the the import and export value chain between 2006 and 2017.

The committee has so far interfaced with the commercial banks indicted in the matter as well as relevant government agencies and is currently meeting with companies.

Few days back, American news network, CNN, has mocked Nigeria, asking where is President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that the Nigerian president has not been in the country for over two months and the news television in a query on its website on Sunday asked which “head of state from which country has not set foot in his homeland in over two months?”
The mockery came in the latest edition of CNN’s “The Global Public Square (GPS)” show anchored by Fareed Zakaria. In an apparent mockery of Nigeria and her President Muhammadu Buhari, CNN, on its programme displayed at 4:59pm local time on Sunday, asked,“The head of state from which country has not set foot in his homeland in over two months?”
Meanwhile, the American news network, CNN has finally cleared the air and revealed that the Nigerian President is no where to be found at his residence where he is receiving his treatment and indications showed that the cabals are hiding him at the coastal area of the West.

The Presidency, has resolved to probe the latest appointments made by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, into the board of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
Recall, that Osinbajo had recently named a new Chairman and board members of the Commission.
However, there were media reports on Friday, that two of the board members are currently being investigated by the ICPC.
The two members of the board, headed by Bolaji Owasanoye, a Professor of Law and current Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, are Maimuna Aliyu and Sa’ad Alanamu.
While Alanamu is being investigated on corruption charges allegedly committed while he headed several institutions in Kwara State, Aliyu has a longstanding case of abuse of office, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds against her.

It was alleged that charges were already being prepared against her by the ICPC, in preparation to taking her to court, when her name was announced as a member of the new board of the Commission.
Apart from the ICPC investigation, investigations also show that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Nigerian Police have investigated several corruption cases against Aliyu, a former Executive Director of the Aso Savings and Loans.

In May, a Police investigative report indicted her and recommended her for prosecution. The investigative report dated May 31, 2017, and signed by Taiwo Oyewale, a Superintendent of Police, for the Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGP Monitoring Unit, said that Aliyu illegally converted to personal use a total of N58 million, being proceeds of three plots of land belonging to her employers, Aso Savings and Loans.
Meanwhile, when asked the step the Presidency would take over the accused persons, the Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said the allegations would be thoroughly investigated.
“These claims would be promptly investigated. The Presidency will surely do only what is right, proper, and seen to be so,” Akande said.
Recall, that Osinbajo had on Tuesday, redeployed the Chairman of the ICPC, Ekpo Nta, to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
In his place, Bolaji Owasanoye, was appointed as Chairman, with a renewable tenure of five years.
Owasanoye was part of the Prof. Itse Sagay-led Presidential Committee on Anti-Corruption.

Palpable fear has gripped Akpagodogbo-Otukpa community in Ogbadibo Council of Benue State following Wednesday’s clash between the indigenes and herdsmen which left no fewer than three people dead. The mid-noon skirmish also resulted in injuries on several others.

Some of the locals, who craved anonymity, told The Guardian that cattle herders had invaded farmlands with their animals eating up crops, leading to the farmers who were still around at 4:00p.m., to chase them away.

It was, however, gathered that the herdsmen reinforced and attacked the local farmers in the night, resulting in the death of three persons – two from locals and a herdsman.

The community’s traditional ruler, HRH Solomon Ekele who confirmed the incident to our reporter, condemned the act in its entirety. However, former Minister of State for Education and an indigene, Professor Jerry Agada, has decried the incident.

He said: “Our people have lived with herdsmen for a long time even we have inter-married and any time you interact with the Fulani in our community, they tell us that they are indigenes.”

But, the state police public relations officer (PRO), ASP Moses Yamu, said no life was lost.In the meantime, university teachers, experts as well as herders and locals have met with a view to proffering last solutions to the menace.

The dons specifically stated that the National Animal Production and Research Institute at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria had been holding workshops with the main parties on modernising animal husbandry and farming. They noted that the menace could be mitigated if the herders embrace ranching.

The stakeholders lamented that the “conflicts between farmers and herdsmen over the years have led to loss of thousands of lives and property worth millions of naira across nationwide, with cases rising yearly.”

They stressed that “livestock and farming are an economic mainstay for many families across northern Nigeria, with 80 per cent of them keeping at least one or two animals to fall back on during hard times.”
