The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reached an agreementwith the federal government.
The accord comes after a meeting, which lasted 12 hours, between the leadership of the union and a government delegation led by Adamu Adamu, minister of education.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting, Biodun Ogunyemi, national president of ASUU, said the dialogue yielded “a concrete proposal”, but that the union would have to reach its members for a decision.
“Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration,” he said.
Also addressing journalists, the minister of education said the demands of the union had been taken care of and that it would call off its strike within a week.

Since ASUU embarked on strike on August 14, the government has held meetings with the union, which were deadlocked, until that of Thursday.
ASUU went on the strike owing to the failure of the government to implement the 2009 agreement it reached with the union.
The union is asking, among other things, the government to pay its members their earned allowances and to increase funding for universities.

Arulogun said that Iseyin Local Government recorded 67.64%, followed by Ibadan South West 67.53%, Irepo 66.18%, Oyo West 63.95%, Ido 63.62 as the top five local governments, adding that Ibarapa North with 34.89, Surulere with 29.11, Ogbomoso South with27.95, Itesiwaju 21.01 with and Iwajowa local Government with 10.28 have the least of candidates with a minimum of 5 Credits including Mathematics and English.

“We have cancelled automatic promotion in our schools, introduced the School Government Board (SGB) OYOMESI, Education Trust Fund ETF, WAEC Boot Camp, and Extra Mural classes, Staff review for optimization of workforce. These and many other state government’s Initiatives are already yielding fruitful results and we will not rest on our oars,” the government spokesman explained.

President Muhammadu Buhari was said to have issued a matching order to the Nigerian military
to weaken Nnamdi Kanu and his group, the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) before he returns from the trip he is set to embark on Sunday.
Buhari will attend the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72).
He will join other world leaders at the welcoming reception to be hosted by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and also hold a bilateral meeting with the UN scribe.
The Nigerian leader is billed to have a a lunch meeting with President Donald Trump of the United States of America, along with other world leaders.
Buhari, who will be accompanied by the governors of Zamfara, Ebonyi and Ondo States, and key cabinet ministers, will transit through London on his way back to the country.
Although it is still unclear how long the president will be away, DAILY POST gathered on Friday that he spoke to the nation’s security chiefs earlier in the week.
The president, angered by the audacity of IPOB in declaring that they were ready to fight Nigerians ordered the military to move in and quell their violent clamour.
”Buhari will never negotiate the unity of Nigeria and I can tell you that the declaration by the military that IPOB are enemies of the state is the outcome of the go-ahead by the president.”

“Rules of engagement will be respected but force will be applied where necessary. My advice is for the agitators to clam down and use wisdom,” a reliable source told DAILY POST.
The Nigerian military in a statement by Major General, John Enenche, Director Defence Information, declared IPOB a terrorist organisation.
A statement he signed gave reasons for the decision.

The military had said, “after due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient, to notify the general public that; the claim by IPOB actors that the organization is non violent is not true.
“Hence, the need to bring to public awareness the true and current state of IPOB.
“In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that has been terrorising the general public among others include;
“The formation of a Biafra Secret Service; Claimed formation of Biafra National Guard; Unauthorised blocking of public access roads; Extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks.
“Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10 September 2017.
“Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on 11 September 2017 and also attempts to snatch their rifles.
“Attack by IPOB members, on a military check point on 12 September 2017, at Isialangwa, where one IPOB actor attempted to snatch a female soldier’s rifle.”
The source told our correspondent that the onslaught against Kanu and IPOB will commence on Monday.
He said the military is fully ready and will clampdown on Biafra agitators in response “to the battle line drawn by Nnamdi Kanu”.
“If you go to the extent of forming a secret service all in the name of agitation, you have declared war on the state and no responsible government will just watch and do nothing”.
“So come Monday, those who think they have grown so much that they can threaten a whole country should be ready to face the consequences”.

The South-East Governors’ Forum on Friday proscribed all activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The Governors said the ban would be totally enforced in their respective States.
An 11-point communique issued after the meeting was read by Chairman of the Forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held at the Enugu Government House.

Recall IgbereTV  reports that the meeting was also attended by Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Willie Obiano of Anambra and the Deputy Governor of Imo State.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, Ohanaeze President, Nnia Nwodo were also in attendance‎.
The Governors equally called on the Nigerian Army to withdraw all troops from the South-East deployed for the Operation Python Dance.
More to come…

A popular man of God and the General Overseer of the Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke-Afa, Lagos, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, has released a list of new prophesies in the ongoing agitation for Biafra.
He said he sees shootings in Aso Rock, Nigeria's seat of power while also adding that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu may not be the one to actualize Biafra.
The popular man of God whose predictions seldom fails added that Nigeria will break in 6 countries and that would happen in 2032.

Kanu, he said , will certainly have problems with the bail conditions granted him resulting from his activities when next he appears in court soon.
“The current leaders clamouring for Biafra now may not be the ones that will make the dream come true. Nnamdi Kanu may not be the one to actualize this dream. I foresee that he will have problems due to his activities in relation to the bail granted him.”
Ayodele also disclosed that the Name Aso Rock and location of Aso Rock will change, while there will be shootings and death in the Villa.
He wrote:  “The voice of God says the name Aso Rock will be changed in the nearest future and the location may also change. Let us pray to rebuke death and shootings in the villa.

“I forsee that from 2032, Nigeria will not be one country again as I foresee five nations coming out of Nigeria. In 2024, there may be a natural disaster and in the nearest future, the name Lagos may change and Ibadan may become a state.

National Youth Service Corps can be fun and exciting yet a great time to define your goals in life, a time to build relationship, or any number of other things. It is a step closer to “real life” when there are pitfalls and landmines along the way that can derail one on the path to fulfilling your dreams and careers in life.

There are some major dark sides of National Youth Service scheme which are pathetic, thinking of various abnormalities participants are brewing on a daily basis which are

1. Having secret love affairs with students
Some male corps members are nothing but paedophiles as they are fond of taking advantage of the innocence of students entrusted with them to gain sexual gratification. It’s very disgraceful to see male corps members jubilating when posted to primary/ secondary schools because they know they stand a very good chance of sleeping with girls that are below the age of consent.

This is the height of stupidity being perpetuated by some male corps members and that’s what some of them spend their time doing for a whole year then they return back home the same way they left.

2. Extravagant spending/ lack of saving culture
Spending recklessly, lavishly and ostentatiously on irrelevant things are common traits among some corpers of today. They eat with their two hands, go into debts and will still demand more money from home. In fact, even their khakis and jungle boots can easily be recognized by every beer palour in their environment where they normally have rendezvous. These are people who will return back home empty handed after their service year after which they will begin to constitute nuisance in the society by becoming IPOB and Afonja when joblessness hit them.

3. Lusting after ladies
It’s not new to us that some male corps members are fond of chasing and sleeping with both village and rural girls out of NYSC exuberance. In fact, I, Tosyne2much, have even witnessed a scenario when a male corps member sighted his crush by and quickly dashed into his room to change into his khaki and jungle boot so that the girl will know he’s a serving corper.

Some of them impregnate these girls in the process and will head to NYSC secretariat for redeployment to another state in other to avoid shame and embarrassment. This is how notorious some guys can be and that’s how curses follow them anywhere they go.

4. Married/Engaged Woman disguising themselves as single ladies in orientation camps
Many of us must have seen married and engaged women stupidly falling in love with random guys in orientation camps because of stomach infrastructure at mami market. These are ladies who find it difficult to their hold body for three weeks in the absence of their husbands/boyfriends. I remember when I was serving in Kano in 1995, a married woman and a guy were caught doing it on parade ground and were both sent packing.

5. Stupidly falling in love with play boys
Most ladies, if not all, get carried away by the euphoria of NYSC and that’s why there’s a high possibility of losing your girlfriend the moment she goes for service. This is the time they cohabit and flirt with anything that has two legs since their boyfriends are out of sight.

They can even flirt with rifraffs such as native doctors and palm wine tappers forgetting they have boyfriends somewhere, and at the end of the day, they return home with syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital herpes, trichomoniasis, HIV/AIDS, etc.

6. Rebel against native laws
No matter how some rules seem to be old-fashioned, corpers should endeavour to pay obedience to them especially those that are serving in villages or Shari estates. It has been observed that some corps members usually rebel against what they deem to be outdated laws because they feel they’re too educated to obliged to them and that’s how many of them invite problems into their lives. E.g sleeping with people’s wives, oro festival, etc.

7. Picking pockets and stealing
Some corpers are notorious thieves who exhibit their stealing prowess in orientation camps and have been caught vandalizing people bags just to steal their money, phones, chargers, clothes, caps etc; and when they get caught and excommunicated from camp, they put the blame on their village people who don’t even know their Call-up numbers. That was how a corper vandalized my bag and stole the three packs of Gold circle condom I took to camp and left me stranded.

8. Sleeping with NYSC Officials to get posted to juicy places
So many female corps members have been caught sleeping ladies with soldiers, camp commandants, gate men and photographers with the hope of being posted to juicy places. At the end of the day, they still get posted to ridiculous places where they have no access to light, water and network

9. Not allowing the service year to pass through them
First degree is now gradually fading out as employers believe it is no longer enough to equip you for a competitive labour marker and that’s you must have something special to offer that will give you an added edge instead of expecting people to bow their heads for you because you think you have a BSc. Many corps members don’t consider going out of their ways to add to their knowledge but only fantasize about how they will work in Chevron after their service year.

10. Pride
Making friends and meeting new people right from the basic orientation exercise in camp increases people’s chances of getting connected to the right people. Getting acquainted with the right people can be very resourceful because they may be very useful in your job search.

Some corps members remain stagnant not because they are not resourceful but because they are too proud and pompous. They feel they are above any other person therefore they don’t see themselves mingling and discussing with people that can help their situation.

A dietician and food expert, John Tehinse has warned Nigerians against cooking Moi-moi and other foods in nylons as it produced dioxins, a toxic substance that causes cancer.
Tehinse gave the warning on Tuesday in Ilorin at an awareness campaign on food safety organised by the Food Safety Awareness Campaign Initiatives, funded by the European Union.
In his lecture entitled: “Food Safety Control System in Nigeria”, he said that cooking Moin-moin in nylon had become widespread while people were unaware of the dangers.
The food safety expert said nylons or cellophane bags produced dioxins when heated, adding “they are a group of chemically-related compounds that are persistent environmental pollutants (POPs)’’.
Tehinse further warned that dioxins were highly toxic and could cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and also cause cancer.
He advised people to use the traditional leaves to cook the food.
“Food business is not only to make money but a calling to protect public health and ensure what they offer to consumers is safe,” he said.

There are somethings you as a graduate need to put in check before submitting your CV to any organisation :

1. Distance
2. Work Experience
3. Having full Knowledge about Computer
4. Background of Organization
5. Is it through Job Agency
6. Format of Sending Curriculum Vitae/Resume to Organization email
7. Job Related:
8. Standard/Structure of Organization

Let’s discuss them one after the other:

1. Distance:

Most companies considers distance a major factor as it serve as a strict criteria when short listing job applicant, because they wouldn’t want a situation where the worker will be late to work/or be delayed due to traffic, and also in case of emergency.

Moreover employers also don’t want to be a burden on you especially when the pay is not much or probably maybe the business is a medium scale enterprise. So my advice is when applying for that job considers the distance to your place of residence.

2. Work Experience:

Believe me or not most companies are not ready to employ any job applicant who has minimal or little experience in the job field, or do not meet required level of experience because the management usually consider the stress involved in training you to suit the job applied for. E.g. a learned accountant who has been in the company for 5years resigned , and they need a new accountants for the job, definitely they will be requiring the services of a chartered accountant with good experience.

3. Having full knowledge about Computer Operating System:

The mistake most job applicants make especially fresh graduate lying about being a computer literate in their resume. For instance when the job required you to have full knowledge about major operating and application software.

You can’t just have basic knowledge on how to operate a computer with a little know how of Microsoft word and expect that this will help you edge pass that job interview. You need to be well conversant with most Microsoft office application .e.g. excel, PowerPoint and other office software.

4. Background of Organization:

When applying first make a background check on that organization, do they have a website, social media page such as facebook, twitter and others, does the company appears in most website who list major business .e.g. Vconnect, businesslisting.com. Because most companies are fake, some are just there to exploit fresh graduate of their money.

5. Is it through Job Agency:

Well it is not a new thing that most organization engage the service of this agency companies for employer due the stress of searching for applicant, but we have to be careful when applying because 50% of this agency are fake, they don’t really have a job toffer, some even liaise with small companies to rob off applicants all in the name of job vacancy. So the best advice is research well on that agency company.

6. Sending Curriculum Vitae/Resume to Organisation email:

Some applicants are negligent on the way they send CV to organization, you will see subject of email as .e.g. Latest Cv, My Cv, Updated Cv, and many more. my advice is always followed the required format stated by the employer in order not be disqualified, especially when the person assessing all sent CV is not the patient type, he/she may simply ignore your cv.

7. Job Related:

We understand you may have been unemployed since you finished your service year, but always ensure that that job applied for is related to your field of study, unless stated otherwise as part of job requirement, for example accompany may need an account officer for a particular position, an applicant with Accounting qualification will be considers first before a candidate with Marketing or Public Administration educational qualification.

8. Standard/Structure of Organisation

Ensure to run a check on the organization after applying, is it a big, medium or small business organization, sometimes we don’t know the nature of organization majorly because some of this job comes from Job Agent, but never the less we need to be careful with answers provided during interview especially when it comes to salary issue.

With this few tips I hope I have clarified some things to our young and fresh graduate seeking that dream job.
Best of luck to you all. And always never settle for less, though great thing start small.

Being offered admission into a university is the prayer of every Nigerian students. This is because the number of students far outweighs the number of universities we have in Nigeria.

Universities are not even helping the matter at all because most of them admit students based on “long-leg” which i know you understand what i mean. This post is focusing on reasons you might not be offered admission by the school you choose.

These reasons are based on my research, so i hope you trust them.

1. UNABLE TO MEET CUT-OFF MARK FOR YOUR COURSE

This is the most common reason why most of the students are being rejected yearly. For the new-bie, let me explain what i mean by cut-off mark. Cut-off mark is the bench mark or let me say boundary at which you as a student must reach before been offered admission  into a certain university.

There are factors that determines cut-off mark and example of those are; the number of candidates that choose the course, the high or low pass rate of JAMB/screening examination and so on. Cut-off marks are prone to increase or decrease by those factor i gave. I will explain more on the factors i gave and how cut-off mark is being derived my next post.

2. WRONG SUBJECT COMBINATION IN JAMB EXAM

This is one avoidable mistake students commit every year. I will always advise a student to make some little research about the course they want to apply for in JAMB exam, and one of those research is finding out about the subject combination for the course. You can simply do this by checking the brochure provided by JAMB. It won’t cost you anything to do this little research because it is capable of destroying your admission this year. Take note!!!!

3. AGE REQUIREMENT

Though some students below the age requirement of a particular school devise ways to get admitted but i won’t advise any student to take the risk of passing JAMB exam and being denied admission simply because of your age (you know how painful it can be).

Most schools requires the student to be 16 years old on or before October 1st. I have seen a student that was denied admission because of he was below the age requirement despite meeting other requirements that would have qualified him for the admission slot. So i will advise any student that he or she should
make sure that he/she will be 16 years old on or before October 1st.

4. FAILED A CORE SUBJECT IN WAEC/NECO/GCE EXAM

I find it hard to believe that some students apply for admission despite failing a core subject in WAEC/NECO/GCE exam. Maybe they want to try their luck but to be sincere with you, no niversity will offer such student an admission slot except the student uses “long-leg” which i know you understand what i am saying.

5. USING TWO SITTING RESULT

This is also a criteria that cab disqualify a student during admission process. A lot of candidates you are competing with, uses one sitting result and you know the federal universities favour one sitting result more. Why? The answer is simple; simply because they believe candidates with one sitting result are more educationally sound. You got my point? Yeah!!! I will explain more on the disadvantages of using two sitting result in my next post.

Pogba has started every game for United this season, scoring twice.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is set to be out for between a month and six weeks with the hamstring injury he sustained in Tuesday's Champions League win over Basel.

The France international, 24, had scans on the injury on Wednesday.

It is understood Pogba will miss at least a month, leaving him struggling to be fit for the Premier League trip to Liverpool on 14 October.

United boss Jose Mourinho will give an update at a news conference on Friday.

Pogba will miss league games against Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace, next Wednesday's League Cup third-round tie with Burton and the Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow on 27 September.

He will also miss France's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Belarus in early October, which they need to win to guarantee their place in Russia next summer.

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his No.1 ranking on FIFA 18 with a post on his Instagram account.

Ronaldo, who will be on the cover of the game, took to Instagram on Tuesday to show off his top-ranked player attribute card from the game.

The 32-year-old was given a 94 overall ranking in the new game, putting him just ahead of his Barcelona rival Lionel Messi, who was ranked 93.

The Portuguese International will also appear on the cover of this year’s game, and has been written into the storyline of Alex Hunter’s career in The Journey.

The newest version of EA Sports’ football franchise hits the shelves on September 29.

Cristiano Ronaldo was at the double as Real Madrid started their Champions League defence with a 2-0 win over Apoel.

Cristiano Ronaldo put his domestic frustration behind him by scoring a brace on his Real Madrid return as Los Blancos began their quest for a third straight Champions League title with a routine 3-0 win over APOEL.

The Portugal superstar is still serving the remainder of a five-match ban in Spain for pushing the referee in the Supercopa de Espana, but Ronaldo made up for lost time by once again proving the difference at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Argentina forward, Tevez has fallen out of favour in his Chinese club following his lack of fitness and increased body size.

Handsomely paid Carlos Tevez is overweight and will not play again for Shanghai Shenhua until he gets fit, the Chinese club’s new coach has warned.

The 33-year-old Tevez is one of the best-paid players on the planet on reported weekly wages of about 730,000 euros (US$870,000) but has scored just twice this season and missed half the games with injury.

The former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus star has hinted that he will quit China at the end of the season in November and has been branded “very homesick boy” by angry Shenhua fans and Chinese media.

Tevez recently returned to the country from a two-week break in his native Argentina to seek treatment for a leg-muscle injury.

He was jeered when he came on as a substitute last weekend in a 2-1 home defeat, and Wu Jingui, who took over after Gus Poyet quit as coach on Monday, is taking a hardline stance.

“I had a talk with him today about tactics, but I won’t let him play for now, he isn’t physically ready,” Wu said in an interview published Wednesday with the Shanghai Morning Post.

“Both him and (Colombian Fredy) Guarin are overweight. I need to be responsible to the team and responsible to the players.

“When you are on the pitch, if you can’t play at 100 percent, then it is completely meaningless.”

It is the latest sorry chapter in Tevez’s turbulent nine months in China. He angered fans of struggling Shenhua earlier this year when he missed an important match due to injury and was instead spotted at Shanghai Disneyland.

The forward has been a controversial character throughout an itinerant career spanning stints in Argentina, Brazil, England and Italy, before he left Boca Juniors for a surprise money-spinning move to China in December last year.

His most notorious moment in his colourful career came at Manchester City when he refused to warm up as a substitute in the last moments of a Champions League match against Bayern Munich in September 2011.

Tevez fell out with then-City boss Roberto Mancini and flew back to Argentina to mull retirement, before eventually returning to England in February 2012.

Romelu Lukaku’s sixth goal in as many games helped Manchester United to a 3-0 Champions League Group A win over Basel.

Romelu Lukaku marked his Champions League bow with a goal as Manchester United cruised past Basel 3-0 on their return to the competition.

Lukaku netted his sixth goal in as many games for United, back in the competition for the first time in two years, to help them secure all three points at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho handed Paul Pogba the captaincy, but his time wearing the armband was shortlived as a hamstring injury forced the midfielder off in the 19th minute.

Ironically, that moment led to United’s opening goal with Pogba’s replacement, Marouane Fellaini, nodding home Ashley Young’s centre in the 35th minute.

Any hope of a Basel comeback was snuffed out 10 minutes after half-time when Lukaku powered a strong header into the corner.

A fine night’s work for Mourinho’s side was capped with seven minutes remaining as substitute Marcus Rashford curled home a third.

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi followed up his weekend hat-trick with two more goals as Ernesto Valverde’s men swaggered past Juventus.

Lionel Messi netted a brilliant brace as Barcelona helped themselves to a dose of Champions League revenge with a dominant 3-0 Group D win over Juventus.

The Serie A champions beat Barca by the same scoreline in the quarter-finals last season before holding out for a second-leg stalemate at Camp Nou.

Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara and Joshua Kimmich were on target as Bayern Munich sealed a 3-0 victory over 10-man Anderlecht.

Robert Lewandowski outlined his importance to Bayern Munich as his early penalty helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Anderlecht in their Champions League Group B opener.

Having been publicly criticised by Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge following his comments regarding the Bundesliga champions’ transfer policy, Lewandowski wasted no time in making an impact when he drew a clumsy foul from Sven Kums 11 minutes in.

Though the initial contact may well have been outside of the area, a penalty was awarded – and Kums was given his marching orders – with Lewandowski making no mistake from 12 yards.

Bayern came into Tuesday’s clash on the back of their first defeat of the season, which came at the hands of Hoffenheim, and Die Rotten were far from at their best once more, with the visitors squandering two excellent opportunities to restore parity either side of half time.

But, Bayern finally clicked into gear just after the hour, Thiago Alcantara tucking home from Joshua Kimmich’s pinpoint cross.

An argument between Lewandowski and Arjen Robben and the touchline antics of Franck Ribery threatened to overshadow Bayern’s return to form, but Kimmich’s late effort ensured a routine victory ended on a high note.

James Rodriguez should have marked his full debut with a goal inside 10 minutes, but could only direct a tame header straight at Matz Sels after meeting Ribery’s inch-perfect cross.

However, Bayern did not have to wait long to take the lead.

Having latched onto a ball over the top of Anderlecht’s defence, Lewandowski raced into the area, drawing a desperate foul from Kums who – as the last man – the referee had little choice but to send off.

Lewandowski duly converted from the spot, sending Sels the wrong way with a composed finish into the bottom-left corner.

Despite their numerical advantage, a close-range Lewandowski header was the closest Bayern went to extending their lead, and Anderlecht should have drawn level prior to the interval.

Leander Dendoncker got in behind Bayern’s defence and teed up Nicolae Stanciu but, having slipped at the vital moment, he sliced his effort wide as Anderlecht failed to capitalise on a rare venture forward.

And the hosts’ vulnerable defence was opened up once again moments after the restart when Sofiane Hanni’s cut-back found Alexandru Chipciu, whose effort rebounded agonisingly off the left-hand upright.

Ancelotti’s side responded well, though, and finally had their second in the 65th minute as Thiago prodded in Kimmich’s low cross.

Niklas Sule thought he had opened his Champions League account with a terrific header soon after, only for the official to deem the former Hoffenheim man had committed a foul in the build up.

Bayern were back at their rampant best, but issues arose late on when Lewandowski shrugged off Robben’s complaints after the Poland striker failed to play in the Dutch winger before, having been substituted, Ribery launched his shirt down onto the bench.

But that petulance from Bayern’s experienced front line was put to one side in stoppage time, youngster Kimmich coolly rounding Sels to add further gloss to the win.

An internet fraudster from Nigeria has met his waterloo in the UK after he was convicted for fraud.

A fraudster who threw a wallet full of bogus credit cards out of his window when NCA officers arrived to arrest him has been jailed for two years and four months.

Alexander Akinyele, 37, of Doncaster Place, Barrow-in-Furness, had earlier pleaded guilty to ten fraud offences, a Computer Misuse Act Offence and to possession of a false ID with intent.

NCA officers arrived at Akinyele’s home in August 2016. Moments before his arrest, Akinyele threw a wallet containing eight fraudulent credit and store cards and a forged driving licence out of a window.

The subsequent NCA investigation revealed he had possession of 500 valid usernames and passwords for online Sky accounts and the same number for BT accounts which he had bought on the internet.

During their search of Akinyele’s house, NCA officers found he had also stolen several peoples’ personal details, including those of a 74-year-old man, in order to set up bank and credit card accounts and to buy access to Netflix and Argos.

Sentencing him today at Preston Crown Court, Judge Heather Lloyd described Akinyele’s criminal activity as “a persistent and serious offence.”

NCA officer Andrew Shorrock said: “Akinyele used other people’s identities for financial gain, including that of a 74-year-old man.

When Akinyele finally had to accept responsibility himself he resorted to really quite desperate measures, throwing evidence out of the window.

Lionel Messi took his tally in Catalan derbies to 18 with a hat-trick against Espanyol as Barcelona made it three wins from three in LaLiga.

A Lionel Messi hat-trick inspired a comprehensive 5-0 Catalan derby win over Espanyol for Barcelona, who continued their 100 per cent start to life under Ernesto Valverde in LaLiga.

Messi opened the scoring in the 25th minute, although replays showed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was in an offside position when he received Ivan Rakitic’s pass.

There was little else to question in a majestic display from Barca’s talisman, who twice made the most of expert service from Jordi Alba to claim the matchball in the 67th minute – goals 17 and 18 against Espanyol in the top flight.

There were some dicey moments for Valverde’s men at the back but the Camp Nou faithful were able to lap up Ousmane Dembele’s second half debut with the points safe, even if chants calling for the resignation of club president Josep Maria Bartomeu tempered a goal-laden finale.

Club-record signing Dembele set up Luis Suarez to complete the scoring after Gerard Pique headed a fourth from Ivan Rakitic’s 87th-minute corner and Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw at home to Levante earlier on Saturday means Barca hold a four-point advantage over the champions after three matches.

Barcelona made all the early running but suffered a scare in the 21st minute.

Sergio Busquets was deservedly booked for cynically pulling back Leo Baptistao after his slack pass threatened to give the Espanyol forward a route to goal.

The opener arrived from the expected source but Messi should have been flagged offside before controlling Rakitic’s immaculate pass, cleverly turning David Lopez and rifling into the top corner.

A sublime second almost arrived in the 31st minute – Rakitic adding further to an accomplished showing by gliding towards the box and exchanging passes with Messi to draw a superb save from Pau Lopez.

Valverde’s men did not have to wait long to double their advantage as Alba drove an attack from his own half, reacted quickly to a ricocheted return pass from Messi and set up the superstar forward to slot home.

Far from fearing an imminent humiliation, Espanyol gamely responded and Barca goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was grasping at air when Pablo Piatti’s strike cannoned back off the post two minutes before half-time.

Suarez was back in the Barcelona line-up despite an injury scare while on international duty but was not enjoying himself in front of goal as much as Messi.

The Uruguay star fluffed a shot from Gerard Deulofeu’s cross and was denied by Pau at close quarters early in the second period.

A mix-up between Ter Stegen and Alba almost gave Espanyol a lifeline in the 51st minute but Piatti’s lofted shot bounced just wide.

Suarez’s trials continued as he looped an attempt on to the roof of the net having been set up by Messi – both forwards jogged back into position wearing rueful smiles.

Espanyol were being outplayed but retained a sporadic threat, with a combination of Pique and Samuel Umtiti diverting Baptistao’s 61st-minute shot behind.

The points were safe midway through the half when Messi and Suarez played one-twos into the box and the ball broke to Alba, with the mercurial Argentinian on hand to convert the cutback once more.

It was then time for Dembele’s triumphant arrival, with fellow new arrival Paulinho on his way shortly afterwards.

Dembele’s every touch was cheered and he responded by tearing away from an embattled backline to let Suarez end his personal misery, Pique having revelled in piling further derby misery upon Espanyol shortly beforehand.

The France youngster is at Barcelona to target the summit of the world game and needed to look no further than the match-winner playing inside him to see exactly what that looks like.

Manchester United dropped points for the first time this season as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s double helped Stoke City to a 2-2 draw.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s double secured Stoke City a battling 2-2 draw at home to a wasteful Manchester United side that dropped points for the first time this season.

Jose Mourinho’s men attracted plenty of admirers for their impressive start to the campaign, but they were not at their best in front of goal and Choupo-Moting inspired Stoke to a commendable point at the bet365 Stadium

An entertaining first half saw both sides look a danger going forward, with United in particular guilty of wasting numerous chances to take the lead.

Eventually Stoke found the breakthrough in the 43rd minute through Choupo-Moting, but that only seemed to jolt United into life, as they restored parity shortly after in fortuitous circumstances when a Paul Pogba header deflected in off Marcus Rashford.

Romelu Lukaku put United ahead for the first time just before the hour, but like with Stoke’s opener, an equaliser followed soon after as Choupo-Moting doubled his tally.

United looked the more likely to steal a late winner, but Stoke defended valiantly and kept United’s frontline at bay.

Stoke started the brighter of the teams and threatened twice in the opening 10 minutes, with Choupo-Moting and Jese Rodriguez both getting in behind the defence and going close.

United soon woke up and troubled their opposition in a similar fashion, as Lukaku latched on to Rashford’s pass and crossed towards Pogba, whose back-heeled effort was deflected behind.

The home side struggled to deal with the lively Rashford and he went close twice in quick succession just before the half-hour mark.

His first opportunity saw the forward race on to a through ball and test Jack Butland from 16 yards, before forcing an even better stop from the goalkeeper with a controlled effort which looked destined for the bottom-right corner.

Stoke took full advantage of those let-offs late in the half – Choupo-Moting slamming in from close range after a fine Mame Biram Diouf cross.

Their joy was short-lived, though, as United levelled a few moments later as Pogba’s header hit an oblivious Rashford following a Henrikh Mkhitaryan corner and found the net.

United completed the turnaround in the 57th minute and Mkhitaryan was at the centre of things again, slicing open the Stoke defence with an intricate pass for Lukaku, who found the net at the second time of asking after Butland saved his first effort.

But Stoke were level again shortly after.

David De Gea made a remarkable save to deny Jese initially, but from the resulting corner he was rendered helpless, as Choupo-Moting headed in at the back post after shaking off Phil Jones’ weak challenge.

There was still time for United to almost snatch it with two late chances.

The first fell to Lukaku, who inexplicably turned Antonio Valencia’s cross over from eight yards with nine minutes left, before Butland heroically got down to prevent Kurt Zouma from scoring an own goal deep into stoppage time.
