Police identify colleague killed in communal clash


The Gombe State Police Command has identified Sergeant Abdul Mohammed as the police personnel killed during a communal clash between communities of Shongom and Billiri Local Government Areas of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Austin Iwar, said Sergeant Mohammed of 59 Mobile Police Force, who was part of a police team deployed to restore peace in the area, was shot in the head and he passed on at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe on Wednesday.

Mr Iwar said over 50 armed people allegedly stormed a Kufayi village on Friday, and set houses ablaze and destroyed other properties. 

He said the command was yet to make arrest, but the policemen deployed to the scene were able to restore peace and normalcy was returning to the affected areas.
