Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed that he expects new signing,
Alvaro Morata to ‘ improve his fitness quickly’ or be benched against
Arsenal in their FA Community Shield next Sunday.
The Spaniard made a exciting move to Stamford Bridge after weeks of
speculation linking him to Manchester United but has not been able to
prove his worth in his early days with the Blues.
Conte appears to be unconvinced with Morata’s mixed start to life with
Chelsea and has urged him to improve on his ‘fitness’ ahead of their
Sunday clash against the Gunners.
He told The Sun: “Morata is just starting to train with us. He has to
improve his condition a lot to adapt quickly into our team.
“He is working well but it has been only five days. Today, he tried to do his best but for sure he has to improve.”
Second-choice Michy Batshuayo has done to prove himself in pre-season
matches and even scored against Arsenal during a friendly game in Asia
Antonio Conte raised mixed reactions when he came out to hint that he
could have preferred to the sign Tottenham Hotspur forward, Harry Kane
ahead of Morata this summer if given the opportunity.
