Yesterday,EFCC said it has traced at least N47.2Billion and $487.5Million in cash and properties to former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

“This followed painstaking investigations by operatives of the EFCC,” two staff of the anti-graft agency wrote in an article.

The former Minister is also being investigated for corruption and money laundering in the U.S and U.K. These, the anti-graft agency said, were apart from “boxes of gold, silver and diamond jewellery, worth several million pounds sterling,” discovered during a search of Diezani’s palatial residences in Abuja.

The EFCC said it discovered several of Diezani’s landed properties scattered all over Lagos and other parts of the country in the course of its investigations.

The anti-graft agency stated that it discovered other Diezani’s properties such as a 21-mixed housing units at No. 7, Thurnburn Street and 5, Raymond Street, Yaba, Lagos.

It said,

“The Yaba, Lagos properties, worth N1bn, were paid for on May 30, 2012. The same day Alison-Madueke splashed N900m on a Port Harcourt estate.

“In Lekki Phase One, operatives found a twin four-bedroomed duplex. The duplex is located on Plot 33, Block 112, Lekki Peninsula Residential Scheme Phase 1, Lekki, Lagos, with an estimated value of over N200m.

Also in Lagos, a large expanse of land at Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, has also been traced to her and it’s currently being utilised as a dumping site. It was bought on February 16, 2012, for N135m.

Plot 8, Gerard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, another property traced to Alison-Madueke, is a penthouse on the 11th Floor in the Block B Wing of the building. It was bought for N12m on December 20, 2011.

On Plot 10, Frederick Chiluba Close, Asokoro district of Abuja, lies a duplex, acquired by her in December, 2009, at the cost of N400m but it was never declared in any of her asset declaration forms.

Also linked to the former Minister in Abuja is a mini estate located on Plot 1205, Cadastral Zone B06, Mabushi Gardens Estate. It houses 13 three-bedroomed terrace houses. It was purchased on April 2, 2012 at N650m.”

JAMB
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said it would only close the change of courses and institutions procedures only when the 2017/2018 admission is concluded

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, JAMB’s Head of Public Relations, Fabian Benjamin, said it was wrong for any student to observe that the board would close the change of courses and institutions procedure soon.

He advised candidates to avoid panic, but take time to make decision that is suitable for them, to secure admission into higher institutions, as the procedure is continuous and the commission is not ready to close the procedure until admission has been concluded.

“This is so because there are moments whereby candidates who chose particular institution will not have opportunity there and another one will want to offer them admission.

“If closed it will be difficult to access such offer, all candidates need to do is go back to the portal and make changes to those institutions and access available opportunities.

“We want to avoid a situation whereby candidates will have multiple admission and will take one and be denied that opportunity.

“When we do that statistics will be strengthened; if candidates choose the University of Lagos and later consider Yaba-Tech the statistic will reflect the second choice.

“So that when we are giving account of admission of a candidate, we will be able to provide accurate statistic and not distorted data we have been dishing out before.”
He said that the change is imperative for candidates who made mistakes while choosing courses they want to study or the institution or university they want to apply to.

Benjamin explained that the process of change of courses and institutions could be done with the payment of N2, 500 in JAMB Computer Based Tests (CBT) centres and at other approved centres.

He, therefore, advised candidates who wished to change their choice of course or institution to think properly, before doing so to avoid irregularities.

He also added that the board would hold the policy committee meeting on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, to determine cut-off points for admissions this year into various courses and tertiary institutions.

He further said that the decision for the cut-off points for admission would be decided by Vice-Chancellors of universities, Rectors of Polytechnics and Mono-techniques and Provosts of Colleges of Education.

The Nigerian Army has called on the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists to surrender or die like dogs.

The army said this call became necessary because the ideology of the Boko Haram is dead and no longer tenable.

The army stated this in a statement signed by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman Director Army Public Relations and released to the media yesterday in Abuja.

“This is to call on the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists wherever you are hiding, to give up forthwith. This is because your ideology of Boko Haram is dead and no longer tenable.

“There is no reason to be suffering or fighting a lost cause. As you are aware, your leaders have abandoned you and could no longer be of any help to you.

“Therefore you should all surrender to avoid dying like dogs because of the ongoing concerted military clearance operations,” the army told Boko Harm terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force said yesterday that it has destroyed a Boko Haram hideout in the Sambisa region.

According to a statement by Olatokunbo Adesanya, Air Commodore, Director of Public Relations & Information, Nigerian Air Force, said on 8 August 2017, the Air Component detailed fighter aircraft to strike the Boko Haram hideout in succession.

It said, “Following the first and second strikes, the building was completely destroyed and the location was strafed during the third attack.

The fourth attack was re-directed to a close by building, where BHT activity was also noticed.

Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the BHT hideout was completely reduced to rubble and several BHTs were killed while a few of them were seen evacuating the casualties.”

NAF, said that action was in furtherance of operations to completely defeat the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) Organization.

Adding that, “On 7 August 2017, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE conducted Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission over Parisu, in the Sambisa general area.

During the ISR mission, a large group of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) was seen converging under a tree close to a prominent zinc-roofed structure.

Part of the structure was concealed by the foliage of a tree, making it a seemingly unobtrusive gathering point for the terrorists.”

NAF, said a confirmatory ISR mission indicated that the structure was indeed a BHT hideout.

Barcelona are ready to pull off a big coup, by triggering Marco Asensio’s release clause.

According to Diario Gol, Barca are considering a swoop for Asensio, who plays for their arch-rivals, Real Madrid and are prepared to meet his £72million buy-out clause.

The Catalans continue to explore several options, as they prepare to put the money generated by Neymar’s record-breaking sale to Paris Saint-Germain to good use.

Their chase of Liverpool playmaker, Philippe Coutinho, is dragging on with the Reds refusing to do business at any price.

Barcelona have already seen two bids rejected and there are speculations that they may include midfielder Ivan Rakitic is a third offer for Coutinho.

2017-18 English Premier League (EPL) season begins on Friday with Nigerian new signing Kelechi Iheanacho penned to lead Leicester City’s attack in the opener match against Arsenal.

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare believes Jamie Vardy and Nigerian Iheanacho can form a potent strike partnership,

Iheanacho, a £25million signing from Manchester City, came off the substitutes’ bench and within minutes teed up Vardy for the winner in City’s final friendly of pre-season against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Shakespeare confirmed that that Iheanacho has fully recovered from the knock he suffered in club’s 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach stating that the 20-year-old he is a good partner for Vardy

“They can play together, most definitely,” said Shakespeare.

“You’ve seen how they linked up in the pre-season match. I think having the depth in the squad is important.

“I thought he was really unselfish for a player making his debut. You would probably think he might take that chance himself, but to spot Jamie, to play that in with the weight of pass he did for Jamie to finish it, it shows his awareness and his unselfishness.”

City fans didn’t get much opportunity to assess their new striker as he was only on the pitch for 17 minutes, but Shakespeare said he will give City another attacking dimension.

“He’s young, he’s a good goalscorer, you see that he can link play up, his all-around game,” said Shakespeare. “He’s only going to get better.

“His goalscoring record is excellent. He gives us another dimension.

Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos State governor, yesterday said that the first set of 5,000 new buses that would replace ‘danfo’ bus will be unveiled within the next six months.

Ambode, spoke when students of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, United States of America, paid him a courtesy visit at the Lagos House in Ikeja.

He said: “In the last one year, we have decided that we must integrate rail, road water and air transportation systems in such a way that the system of connectivity is improved upon and I would like to have a direct partnership on how that can actually be actualised.

“Right now, we are cleaning out all the yellow buses you see in the state. As we proceed in the next six months and a span of three years, we are introducing 5,000 new buses of European standard to actually clean up the city, because, if you want to grow the economy of Lagos, transportation is key and then it’s a major infrastructure for tourism itself.

“The question is: How do you move 23 million people on a daily basis from point A to point B with ease and comfort? So, the way the city has been so designed in the last few years, the city has actually concentrated on only one mode of transportation, which is road transportation.

“There are eight million people walking on the streets of Lagos every minute, did we create more points for them? The answer is ‘no’. We have one-fifth of the state on water, are we doing effective water transportation? The answer is ‘no’.

“The rail system is still under construction in such a way that it can move mass number of people from one point to another. That is why we have a whole lot of congestion on the road.

Ambode said the state government had made series of intervention to improve road transportation network through the creation of more bus terminals, lay-bys, bus stops to accommodate the eventual take off of the Bus Reform Initiative.

The governor also disclosed that the reforms in the water transportation system was ongoing and would take off fully within the next six to nine months, as a means to encourage residents to utilise it as an alternative means of transportation.

Ambode also listed urban migration as one of the major challenges his administration was contending with just as he revealed that about 86 persons enter into Lagos on a daily basis without any plan to go back.

“People fly in from Ghana to come and use our hospitals here in Lagos. So, we now have to sit down beyond what we have learnt in school to look at the practical challenges of urban migration and good governance and things we have to mitigate against a population that is unaccounted for,” Ambode added.

Scientists have found a sizeable number of women to have the Y chromosome particular to men in their blood which raises the question of its origin.

An immunologists at the Fred Hutchinson Caner Center in 2004 found that 21 percent of the 120 women whose blood samples were taken for the study had male DNA in their blood.

The study however categorized the women into four groups according to pregnancy history to include Group A had had only daughters, Group B had had one or more miscarriage(s), Group C had induced abortions, and Group D had never been pregnant before.

The presence of the male chromosome in the women were found to be considerably greater in the Group C although the Y-choromosome was still present in other groups, with Group A showing 8%, Group B, 22%, Group C, 57%, and Group D, 10%.

However, in a recent explanation for the findings which was conducted in 2004, scientists have come to a clear establishment that 63% of women have brains that harbor DNA that originated from another individual.

In a progessive study focused on the female brain and genetics, the male DNA which were present in the women have been found to belong to present or past lovers as the DNA was found to be distinct compared to all other cells which make up a woman.

Your Newswire reports that the DNA which accounts for the Y-chromosome was genetically fused to the women’s brain and will be there for her entire life.

The discovery was reported to have been made by accident during a research to determine if women who have been pregnant with a son might be more predisposed to certain neurological diseases that occur more frequently in males.

Researchers at first attributed the male DNA found in the female brain to male pregnancy but later established that contrary to the earlier theory, the DNA belongs to their lovers. This was established after a research was carried out on the brains of women who had never been pregnant, let alone have a male child and the same male DNA were found in their brains.

The study which concludes that sperms are living cells further provides an avenue to tell the number of sexual partners a woman has been with in her life as the study concluded that sperms are living cells and every time a woman’s body absorbs spermatozoa from a man, it becomes a living part of her for her entire life.

The research note added: “Sperm is alive. It is living cells. When it is injected into you it swims and swims until it crashes headlong into a wall, and then it attaches and burrows into your flesh. If it’s in your mouth it swims and climbs into your nasal passages, inner ear, and behind your eyes. Then it digs in. It enters your blood stream and collects in your brain and spine.”

Guzel Zakirova, a 23-year-old bride was crushed to death while on her way to her own wedding in Russia.

The young bride who was on her way to the civil ceremony after getting her hair done was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash.

According to The Sun UK, Guzel Zakirova was driving with a friend to meet her husband-to-be IInar Shafikov, 26, when a 31-year-old man rammed into her car in Bashkortostan.

Her female passenger who sustained serious injury was taken to a hospital alongside the man who crashed into bride’s car.

Her relatives consequently organised a funeral instead of the intended wedding.

What are harmful traditional practices?

Harmful traditional practices are forms of violence which have been committed primarily against women and girls in certain communities and societies for so long that they are considered, or presented by perpetrators, as part of accepted cultural practice.
The most common are:

  • Forced or early marriage
can be defined as ‘a marriage in which one or both spouses do not  (or, in the case of some adults with learning or physical disabilities, cannot) consent to the marriage and duress is involved’.

  • So-called ‘honour’-based violence
any type of physical or psychological violence committed in the name of ‘honour’ predominantly against women for actual or perceived immoral behaviour, which is deemed to have shamed their family or community.

  • Female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM)
refers to procedures that intentionally alter or injure female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
Victims of forced marriage and “honour” based violence often experience abuse within the relationship.  Rape, physical, emotional and psychological violence, forced pregnancy and restrictions on freedom of dress, behaviour and lifestyle are common.  Some women are virtually under house arrest, and may only be allowed out if accompanied by family members.

Who is at risk?

The key risk factor for experiencing forced marriage and ‘honour’-based violence is being female.
Younger women are the main victims although men are also sometimes affected.
The majority of those seeking advice for forced marriage are Asian women and tend to be aged between 18 and 23.  FGM is most frequently carried out on young girls between infancy and the age of 15.

Health impact

Harmful traditional practices encompasses a range of abuse which results in physical and psychological harm, disability and even death for significant numbers of women.
Patients may present with physical, sexual and mental health issues.  Some of the signs to look out for include:
  • Issues consistent with domestic abuse
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Substance misuse
  • Eating disorders
  • Early and unwanted pregnancy
  • Self-harm, suicidality
Women may present to health professionals with many of the same problems evident in women experiencing domestic abuse.  Other potential indicators are:
  • Family history of older siblings marrying early
  • Withdrawal from education, or for women with physical or learning disabilities, withdrawal from their social networks or day care
  • A young woman being taken to the doctor to be examined to see if she is a virgin
  • Possible presentation of symptoms associated with poisoning
  • Less commonly, a woman’s hair may have been cut or shaved as punishment
Remember – a woman may be a virtual prisoner at home, so seeing health staff may be a rare opportunity for her to tell someone about what is happening.

Your role as a health worker

As a health worker you are in a unique position to respond to any form of harmful traditional practice by treating the patient with respect and dignity and by:
  • Being aware of the possibility of such abuse
  • Understanding the cultural context
  • Recognizing signs and symptoms
  • Initiating discussion
  • Assessing safety
  • Documenting your findings (not in handheld notes)
  • Giving correct information
  • Be sensitive to different needs and ensure all patients can access services equally, for example by providing professional interpreting services
Further information on what to look for and what you can do to help can be found in the guidance.
The presence of domestic abuse may also mean that dependent children are at risk of serious harm.  If you suspect this, you should follow local child protection procedures and seek a multi-agency response to increasing safety for those affected.

The Lagos State Police Command has yesterday took three new suspects into custody over a suspected kidnappers’ den in the Obadeyi- Ijaiye end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Two of the suspects, a woman and a man, had allegedly disguised as mad persons.

The woman was said to have later confessed to being a member of a kidnap gang.

According to Punch, three phones, an ATM and two loaves of bread, were recovered in a bag found with the woman, while the man had some clothes in his bag.

DAILYPOST reported yesterday that the kidnappers/ritual killers’ den was uncovered around 8 am on Tuesday.

A highway sweeper with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency alerted residents to the voice of a distressed woman in a drainage channel in the area.

Five persons came out through the channel and two of them were set ablaze by a mob, while three others were rescued by the police.

Also, clothes, slippers and bags believed to be effects of victims were found in the building.

A 42-year-old man, John Owobi, has beaten his wife, Theresa to death in their home in 42 Musliu Street, Oko-Oba home in Lagos.

The man, however, was exposed by his children, who he told to tell neighbours that she drank insecticide and died.

According to Punch, neighbours claimed to have heard the deceased, Theresa, shouting for help during the fight with her husband.

On getting to their flat to ascertain the cause of the shout, they reportedly met the lifeless body of Theresa on the ground.

Upon inquiry, Owobi told them his wife drank a bottle of insecticide, adding that he had once stopped her from taking the poisonous substance.

However, the most senior child of the man, who is 13-years-old was said to have opened up to the neighbours that his father killed his mother.

He said their father beat her throughout the night. He said he later came to tell them that she drank poison and died.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the incident.

He said that autopsy report showed that the deceased died as a result of internal injuries sustained from severe beatings as well as trauma.

He said, “The suspect went to the station to report that the deceased was found lying dead on the floor in their room.

“He claimed that his wife drank poison. But investigation revealed that he allegedly beat his wife to death.

“When she died, he told his children to say their mum took poison, if anyone asked. Investigation is still ongoing.”

Research shows that Breastfed babies have lowered chances of developing chronic illnesses in the future such as Type 1 and 2 diabetes, Gastrointestinal conditions such as Crohns disease and Celiac disease.

I remember when my elder sisters would give birth. My mother would go for maternal care (a tradition where the mother and baby are taken care of by a close relative such as a mother or mother-in-law). My mother would insist that my sisters breastfeed their children. My sisters really had no choice, she practically forced them. She really didn’t care if you were tired or if it hurt, she insisted that her grandchildren would not be fed formula milk, at least not in the first few months. In fact, her popular phrase was “Breast is Best!” ‘Breast is Best!” And she would say it over and over again till they gave in. Perhaps now they should all thank her because indeed, ‘Mama Knows best!’

Breastfeeding has been extensively researched by numerous medical authorities and the health benefits are endless; both to the infant and to the mother as well. The World Health Organization recommends that nursing mothers should breastfeed exclusively during the first year of a child’s life. According to the WHO, there is well established evidence on cognitive and health benefits associated with breastfeeding as well as significant risks of not breastfeeding. Some of the benefits you provide your child with via breastfeeding are as follows:

  • Ideal nutrition for the baby
There’s no question around this. Breastmilk provides the ideal nutrition for a newborn baby. It has the perfect mix of vitamins, proteins, fat and sugar needed and is more easily digested than formula for the infant. It helps to form a healthy gut in babies. Also, breastmilk adapts to the baby’s changing needs meaning that mother’s breastmilk is customized specifically for her infant’s needs.

  • Immunity for the baby
All babies should be breastfed immediately after delivery or within an hour after birth. The Colostrum which is the first milk produced by the mother’s breast is loaded with antibodies to protect the newborn and help fight off initial bacterial and viral infections. These antibodies are passed on to the baby only by breastfeeding. Research has shown that breastfed babies have a better antibody response to vaccines than formula fed babies and a stronger immune system overall, com. Overall, the immune system of children that are breast fed is stronger compared to those that aren’t.

  • Long term health
Breastfed babies have lowered chances of developing chronic illnesses in the future such as Type 1 and 2 diabetes, Gastrointestinal conditions such as Crohns disease and Celiac disease. Cold and Flu and other Respiratory disorders such as Asthma, Pneumonia are less common in breastfed children. Also, the incidence of SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is reduced by half. There is a decreased risk of childhood cancers such as Leukemia in breastfed children. So you see, ultimately, breastfeeding newborns would keep them out of the hospital in the long run.

  • Smarter children
Though the jury is still out on this, studies have shown that breastfeeding has been linked to improved academic performance in young children. Of course, I am aware that other factors can positively influence academic excellence such as paying attention in class, personal study time and discipline. Yet, the largest study conducted around this claim, was by Dr. Michael Kramer at McGill University, Canada and on 14,000 children. He concluded that breastfed babies had higher IQ scores and were more intelligent than babies that were formula fed. I guess it won’t hurt to try!

  • Decreased risk of childhood obesity
Childhood obesity is quickly becoming an epidemic and our young children are getting fatter and fatter. Though it’s not as bad as it is in more developed countries, we still have obese children here in Nigeria. Breastfeeding helps to promote a healthy weight range in children. This may be due to the increased Leptin hormone present in breastmilk that helps regulate appetite and fat storage. Studies have shown that obesity rates are about 20-30% lower in breast fed babies. The risk is lowered the longer the months the baby is breast fed. Each month accounts for about four per cent decreased risk, so if you breastfeed your infant for only 2 months the obesity risk would only be decreased by 8% and so on and so forth.

5 ways breastfeeding benefits new Mums - Dr. Nini Iyizoba

Breastfeeding creates a special bond like no other between the mother and child. It is such an intimate act and this skin to skin contact is very important to newborns. It allows the baby to become more familiar with the mother’s touch, the heartbeat, and helps babies feel more secure and comforted. The oxytocin released also promotes enhanced love and affection, trust and confidence between mother and baby. It elevates the mother’s mood and wards off postpartum depression. Therefore, breastfeeding is a way a mother can build a loving and nurturing relationship with their child.

  • It’s cheap and convenient
Imagine it’s the middle of the night and your baby is hungry and crying. What could be easier than just whipping out one breast and satisfying your baby? You don’t have to stand up from bed to warm the baby food to the right temperature because breastmilk is always at the right temperature, you wouldn’t even have to buy, wash or sterilize any bottles. Formula and feeding supplies are expensive and breastfeeding eliminates that huge dent in your finances because breastmilk is free!

  • Decrease cancer risk!
There is conclusive evidence that breastfeeding an infant for more than 18 months reduces risk of a woman developing ovarian cancer by as much as 50 per cent! Breastfeeding can also decrease a woman’s breast cancer risk especially if done for more than a year. This is because prolonged periods of breastfeeding reduce a woman’s lifetime exposure to estrogen, the hormone that is the main component that promotes breast and ovarian cancer cell growth.

  • Kick off the Kgs (Obesity)
Just as with the baby, breastfeeding helps women to maintain a healthy weight. Breastfeeding mums can burn an additional 1000 calories or more a day depending on how frequently you breastfeed. Naturally, women who are breastfeeding would make healthier food choices to avoid giving the baby too much junk and this would translate into a quicker weight loss for the mother because you are eating nourishing, healthy foods. Generally, women who breastfeed tend to return faster to their pre-baby weight than those who do not breastfeed.

  • The 6 versus 10
Oxytocin released during breastfeeding is also responsible for uterine contractions. This means that there is reduced blood loss post-delivery and this helps the uterus heal quicker and return to normal size more quickly – in six weeks as opposed to 10 weeks – if you don’t breastfeed.

In general, breastfeeding is of optimum importance for healthy growth and development and long-term health of the child, and it is very important to encourage this all over the world. Awareness should be made very early during pregnancy or even before conception. Breastfeeding your infant is one of the highly preventive measures to protect your child’s health. If we want our future generation to become healthier, we need to promote breastfeeding from now. Just tell them ‘When it comes to baby food, breast is best!”

Angry youths in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have reportedly buried alive a suspected armed robber identified as Chukwudi Omaka.

Omaka along with his gang members had allegedly robbed and killed a businessman, known as Idam Ogbonnia.

Ogbonnia was reportedly killed at Amaisri community in the area.

New Telegraph reports that Omaka was also among robbers who robbed a cold room known as Etuelughu, belonging to one Oko Udu Monday and another Provisions Store belonging to a businessman identified as David.

The youths, after burying the suspect alive, reportedly planted a tree on the grave in accordance with the customs of the community against anyone who committed a crime.

The tradition has been as old as the community.

A 29-year-old brother to the man who was buried alive, Gideon Omaka, told the newspaper that he did not know anything about the robbery for which his brother was killed.

He said, “I was in my house when people attacked me and killed my brother, Chukwudi. I ran away.

“They said my brother was one of those who robbed Idam Ogbonnia in my village.

“My brother was the one who was buried alive when I ran away. The people later arrested me.

“I just returned from prison, that was why the people said I knew about the robbery that took place in my community for which my brother was accused, attacked and buried alive. I was released from prison March this year.”

IN CALABAR—A mother of five, Mrs. Udoaka Sunday, and three others have been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for sexually abusing her 12-year-old daughter in Calabar.

It was gathered that the woman collects money from various men to sleep with her 12-year-old first daughter.

A neighbour, who spoke anonymously with Vanguard at their Aka Effa residence by Akai Effa Town Hall, confirmed that Udoaka collected money from different men, including a retired 78-year-old soldier, Effiom Okon, and four other persons.

The suspects arrested along side the girl’s mother.

Her words: “That woman is really insane; she is the biological mother of the girl. How can any sane mother allow men to abuse her daughter because she is poor? There is no excuse for the act apart from insanity.

“She collected N15,000 from old soldier and other petty cash from four other men. Whenever she sends her out to hawk Zobo, Fufu and other items, she also reminds her not to fail to visit old soldier and other clients.

“She has been doing this for long and mostly with elderly men, who are above 50 and mostly those receiving pension, because that is how she ensures that money keeps coming.”

Teacher blows a whistle
Vanguard gathered that the girl reported the matter to her teacher in school, who, after verifying the information, went to a child rights foundation that blew the whistle and had Udoaka arrested.

A Police source told Vanguard that the woman was a “bad case,” adding that she has five children for five different men.

According to the source, “we thank God for the teacher, who the girl reported her plight to before schools vacated. She was the one who reported the case to a foundation that exposed the trade.

“She is currently nursing a baby, and the father of that child has not even visited since her arrest. That should tell you the kind of person she is; she is a bad person who is insane. No normal human being will allow that old-looking retired soldier to touch her daughter.”

Police
The Cross Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ubgo, who confirmed the incident, said three men and a woman have been arrested and that investigation was ongoing.

Ugbo said: “A woman, Udoaka Sunday, and three men, including 78-year-old, Effiom Okon, are now in our custody and investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter.”
